Come Sail Away

“I’m sailing away, set an open course for the virgin sea
I’ve got to be free, free to face the life that’s ahead of me
On board, I’m the captain, so climb aboard
We’ll search for tomorrow on every shore
And I’ll try, oh Lord, I’ll try
To carry on”

Good gods, it’s the last day of April already. How is that possible? When I was a kid, hell even when I was in high school and college the nine months of the school year would take forever to go by, but these days the calendar seems to fly by in mere heartbeats. At this rate I’ll need to start Christmas shopping next week. Bah, if I sneeze summer will be over.

So, what’s been going on? Well, in the last three weeks I’ve been to three different SCA Events. Three very different events, but all pleasant. Well, pleasant except for the price of gas of getting to them.

“I look to the sea, reflections in the waves spark my memory
Some happy, some sad
I think of childhood friends and the dreams we had
We live happily forever, so the story goes
But somehow we missed out on that pot of gold
But we’ll try best that we can to carry on”

The first trip was to Coronation, which was held at the same site Gulf Wars is held at; the Kings Arrow Ranch in Lumberton Mississippi. I had to go to this event for two reasons: I had the honor of serving as part of Uther and Kenna’s entourage, and I am the kingdom Chamberlain, so I had to be there for the transfer of kingdom property from one king to the next. As usual, I carpooled with my roommate, Turlaugh. He had to go because he had volunteered to tow the Kingdom trailer to the event for Uther and Kenna.
Unfortunately I was not able to switch to a day shift at work on that friday, so Ididn’t get off work until 9:00 PM. That meant we didn’t get on the road until about 11:30 that evening. Now, for those of you from Memphis know, this put us on site roughly at 6:00 Am.
The day passed quickly. The old King (Sir Uther) died. The new King was crowned. Meetings were attended. Tournaments were watched. Bald heads were burned in the sun ( I knew I should have taken sunscreen). Now, since I hadn’t reserved early enough to get either a cabin or a feast spot, we decided to head back home just before feast, about 5;30 PM. Let me tell you, that was a very, very long drive. But, we got home around midnight, and I crashed for about 14 hours.

"A gathering of angels appeared above my head
They sang to me this song of hope, and this is what they said
They said come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me lads
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me"

Next up was Aethenium. I'll post about that tomorrow.

"I thought that they were angels, but to my surprise
They climbed aboard their starship and headed for the skies
Singing come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me"

Here’s Hoping

I keep telling myself that I’m going to be better about updating this blog. I even mean it when I tell myself that I’m going to be better about updating. However, I’ve been remarkably lazy the last several months. However, I feel my lazy period coming to an end. So, hopefully in the coming months I’ll be more dedicated about keeping this up. Here’s hoping.
